‘Excruciatingly Long Delays’ Up to Two Years at Landlord and Tenant Board


The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) of Ontario, Canada, has postponed its plans to establish an independent ombudsman for two more years. This delay has been attributed to the pandemic-induced backlog of eviction cases. The LTB has faced criticism in the past for its handling of eviction cases and for not having an independent oversight body to investigate complaints. However, the board has assured that it is taking steps to improve its processes and reduce the backlog.
